IDF: Search and Rescue Brigade holds its largest drill in five years
The Home Front Command’s “Orange Dawn” exercise took place Wednesday at several locations across Israel, aimed at improving the brigade’s readiness for “multi-front scenarios,” the military says.
“As part of the exercise, the brigade’s standing army and reserve forces practiced multi-front scenarios involving a range of complex emergencies in civilian areas, such as rescue operations at sites of destruction,” the IDF says.
The military says the drill aimed to “assess and improve rescue capabilities, operational responses across multiple simultaneous fronts, and cooperation with emergency services.”
It also sought to strengthen the troops’ “readiness and operational preparedness” and “their ability to respond to multiple simultaneous fronts on the home front, including in complex emergency scenarios.”
Weekend flooding brings rescues, submerged vehicles and power disruptions
Heavy rain intensified Friday night and continued into Saturday, bringing flooding to parts of northern and central Israel. In Kadima, 117 mm fell in just 75 minutes, according to Israel Meteorological Service figures reported by N12.
Kadima-Tzoran residents were asked to remain home while drainage work was underway. Vehicles were submerged in Even Yehuda. In Jerusalem’s German Colony, firefighters rescued a woman and her dog from a flooded home.
Weather-related damage also disrupted electricity supplies in Gan Yavne and nearby communities from Friday.
Further rain and isolated thunderstorms are forecast tonight across northern and central Israel, with local rain in the northern Negev, according to the Israel Meteorological Service. Localized coastal flooding and flash floods in Judean Desert and Dead Sea streams remain possible.
A slight risk of localized coastal flooding remains Sunday morning, according to Weather2day’s forecast. Rain should gradually weaken from Sunday afternoon. Monday is forecast to be partly cloudy, with temperatures remaining below seasonal averages.
Avoid flooded roads, streambeds and water crossings, and follow local authority instructions.
