Weapons return campaign collects thousands of items
More than 10,000 firearms, ammunition items and pieces of military equipment were reported returned on the campaign’s first day. The IDF gave a first-day tally of 10,000 items.
The military opened approximately 65 stations and collection points at bases across the country on Sunday, allowing weapons and equipment to be handed in with no questions asked.
Among the returned weapons was an Uzi submachine gun that the military said was “phased out of IDF service more than 30 years ago.”
“In accordance with the terms of the operation, the person who returned the weapon was not questioned, and their details were not recorded in the system,” the military said.
