Reported Israeli shift on the Falkland Islands
Prime Minister Netanyahu ordered Israel to shift its position on the Falkland Islands in Argentina’s favor following British sanctions on Israeli settlements in Judea and Samaria, The Telegraph reported.
According to the report, Israeli diplomats were instructed to support direct negotiations between Britain and Argentina over the islands’ future and acknowledge Argentina’s ‘historical connection’ to the territory.
The move stops short of formally endorsing Argentine sovereignty. The Telegraph characterized it as a signal of deteriorating relations between Israel and Britain.
Bank of Israel challenges cryptocurrency proposal
The Bank of Israel pushed back after Netanyahu called for preparations to accumulate cryptocurrency ahead of potential sanctions.
The bank said:
“Cryptocurrencies cannot serve as a means of circumventing sanctions. The right course of action for Israel’s economy is to preserve its economic relationships with our major trading partners and focus on preventing sanctions and their negative impact on the economy. This matter falls within the responsibility of the political leadership, and appropriate action should be taken to advance this goal.”
Responding in an interview, Netanyahu said:
“Crypto is one of the options, not the only option, and it’s not certain that it will be used. I hear the objections and take them into account. I have received advice from various sources, including the Bank of Israel, and I believe that my track record over time shows that I have led the State of Israel to unprecedented economic prosperity. I introduced a free-market economy here, broke up monopolies, reduced waste in the public sector, and lowered taxes and prices on a scale never seen before.”
Latest election polling
With three days until the election, the latest reported poll figures were:
- Channel 11: 52–50
- Channel 12: 56–50
- Channel 13: 54–50
- Channel 15: 47–59
Winter and Zelekha crossed the electoral threshold in only one of the four polls.
Rabin Square demonstration and Golan’s demands
Thousands demonstrated in Rabin Square with approximately 60 hours remaining until polling stations open.
Democrats chairman Yair Golan said:
“This time, we are not standing at the gates of government. We are on our way inside. Stronger and bigger. To establish a state commission of inquiry. To ensure equality in sharing the burden. To safeguard democracy. To separate religion and state. To stop terrorism—both Palestinian and Jewish. To bring an end to conflicts through diplomatic agreements.”
Golan also said:
“Either Channel 14 signs the Press Council’s code of ethics, or it will be shut down. Funding for the Eli pre-military academy will be discontinued. We will demand control of the Ministries of Justice, Education, Public Security, and Communications.”
Security arrangements for Eisenkot
The Shin Bet informed the Yashar! party that its chairman, Gadi Eisenkot, will receive protection beginning Sunday morning from a private security company operating under Unit 730’s direct supervision and guidance.
Proposals to bar indicted politicians from office
Eisenkot said his party would enact legislation barring indicted politicians from office, but that it would not apply to Netanyahu’s current indictment.
Separately, Segal reported that Bennett said legal experts had advised him that a law barring criminal defendants from serving as prime minister would be unconstitutional and struck down.
